New Hartford Lions Club
The New Hartford Lions have served New Hartford and
nearby communities since 1970. Our club belongs to
Lions Clubs International, with 1.3
million members in 87 countries. The Lions’ primary focus is fighting
eye diseases.
New Hartford Lions include 32 members, socially-conscious men and women of all ages, both married and single. The Lions motto is “We Serve” and we have fun doing it. We meet monthly at Log House Restaurant on Rte. 44. To learn about membership or our fundraising efforts, please call 860-738-2207. Supporting Our Community Each year New Hartford Lions raise thousands of dollars for local charity. We support our town libraries and other non-profits, distribute emergency aid to area families and to the elderly, and help fund diabetes research. In 2007 New Hartford Lions presented 5 scholarships to high school graduates and expanded our contributions to include LARC, which serves developmentally disabled residents of Litchfield County. We also maintain a yellow “mailbox” at Marandino’s Market on Rte. 44 in New Hartford, where you can drop in used prescription eyeglasses. These will be recycled into new eyeglasses for the needy. In November 2007, the New Hartford Lions were proud to sponsor a new Leo Club at Northwest Regional High School #7. Over 60 Leos now support our work and volunteer in the community with their own charitable activities, too. Main Fundraisers Our three main fundraisers are the annual Antiques Show at Northwest Regional High School #7 and flea markets at Brodie Park, each June and September. This year the Antiques Show falls on Sunday, March 16th. The flea markets will be Saturday, June 7th, and Saturday, September 27th, rain or shine. (Please call Lion Sandy Morgan at 860-489-9197 for details and vendor contracts.) $5000 to Campaign SightFirst In 2007-2008 our club has also raised $5,000 for Lions Campaign SightFirst by selling boxed note cards that feature seasonal photos of New Hartford. The majority of the profits will go to the Macular Degeneration Research Institute in New Haven, which was established with $500,000 seed money from Connecticut Lions. The remainder will go worldwide to perform cataract surgeries, establish eye clinics, and train ophthalmic professionals. Photos for these lovely cards were all donated by New Hartford residents. You can still purchase note cards at upcoming Lions events.
